  2. Too Bad You're No Good

A glance at the song titles on Paul Craft's new CD is enough to tell you that this Nashville songwriter is a master craftsman indeed. Many of Craft's songs have become bluegrass and country music classics, recorded by such artists as Alison Krauss, Bobby Bare, the Osborne Brothers, Bobby Bare, the Seldom Scene, Moe Bandy, Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson, and the Eagles. Paul Craft is one of four songwriters to have two solely-written songs nominated for a Grammy in the Best Country Song category in the same year (1977). The songs were Dropkick Me, Jesus (through the goal posts of life) sung by Bobby Bare and Moe Bandy's Hank Williams, You Wrote My Life. Given the amount of co-written songs coming out of Nashville and music in general, that statistic will probably stick around for a while.

    Paul Craft "We Know Better"

    Paul Craft

In the previous posts I've made of Paul's music, I'm surprised he hasn't gotten the attention of my other videos. You're missing out! Outside of being a fine singer, he's also wrote such hits as "Dropkick Me, Jesus", "It's Me Again, Margaret", "Teardrops Will Kiss The Morning Dew", and "Brother Jukebox". Here's one of his few singles to hit the charts (#98 in 1977). Now, don't make me post his song "Linda Lovelace (Come Sit On My Face)"... hehe!

While Ray Stevens probably is best known for this amusing tune, it's funny that the songwriter actually had the bigger charted hit with it over 10 years earlier. Ray's hit #74 in 1985, and Paul's version made it to #55 in 1974. If you haven't heard it before, there's not a lot of difference, but it's still worth a listen!

Yeah, I posted it! The late Paul certainly knew his way with words, a very talented songwriter and singer who did some interesting music during his life, including this cut from his 1986 "Warnings" album. Would this song be something I'd expect of him? Probably not, but every now and then, as an artist you have to tap deep inside yourself and see what comes out. As a filmmaker for the last 20+ years myself, I know the feeling. Not sure what folks will think of this one, but I have to admire P... is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of, Inc. or one of its affiliates.
